We Need Your Support to Keep and Expand the Assistant Kindergarten Teacher Position
Welcome to James G Blaine Elementary School-- We are excited for you to become a part of our school community! Blaine will be hosting a few Kindergarten Meet-ups this summer. These will be great opportunities for you to meet other parents, meet teachers and administration as well as find out the best ways for you to prepare for the upcoming school year.
As many of you are aware, Blaine had a budget shortfall- along with many Chicago Public Schools- we were forced to cut some important resources for our school. In 2013, with the help of financial contributions from Blaine's kindergarten families, Principal LaRaviere was able to add a critical resource to our kindergarten program... a fully-certified assistant teacher. In the 2014-2015 school year, a second assistant was able to be added. In the 2016-2017 school year, we expect the teacher-student ratio to be 28 to 1- due to major budget cuts we will, again, have no budget for teaching assistants without help. We are seeking the financial commitment of next year’s families to keep these valuable resources in our kindergarten program.
Since we anticipate four classes, each assistant teacher would divide their time between two classrooms. This means that for around half of the school day, your child will have two kindergarten teachers, instead of one.
With research showing that students excel when the student-to-teacher ratio decreases, we hope you agree that adding two assistant teachers is a worthy goal. We need to raise $100,000 to reach this, which translates into approximately $1200 per student. Your financial contribution and fundraising help will be instrumental.
We hope you have time to review the other pages of this website, especially the “Campaign Information and Dates” tab. If you have questions or input, please email the Kindergarten Fund Board members at: firstname.lastname@example.org
