We Need Your Support to Retain the Two Certified Assistant Teacher Positions
Welcome to James G. Blaine Elementary School! We are excited for you to become a part of our community!
As many of you are aware, Blaine, along with many Chicago Public Schools, had a budget shortfall and was forced to cut important resources. In 2013, with the help of financial contributions from Blaine's kindergarten families, we were able to add a critical resource to our kindergarten program: a fully-certified assistant teacher. In the 2014-2015 school year, a second assistant was added. Two assistants were also retained each school years, following that initial year.
For the upcoming 2018-2019 school year, we expect the student-ratio ratio to be 25:1* and due to major budget cuts we, again, have no resources for teaching assistants. We are seeking the financial commitment of next year’s families to ensure our children benefit from these valuable resources. We anticipate four kindergarten classes, so each assistant teacher would divide their time between two classrooms. This means that for around half of the school day, your child will have two kindergarten teachers, instead of one.
Research shows students excel when the student-to-teacher ratio decreases. We hope you agree that adding two assistant teachers is a worthy goal. In order to reach this goal we need to raise $120,000, which translates into approximately $1,450 per student. Your financial contribution and fundraising help will be instrumental to our success.
