We Need Your Support to Keep and Expand the Assistant Kindergarten Teacher Position
This year, Principal LaRaviere added a critical resource to our kindergarten program, assistant teacher Ellen Nichols. He was able to do so thanks to the financial contributions of Blaine’s kindergarten families. Next year, we expect the teacher-student ratio to be 28 to 1 and, like last year, will have no budget for teaching assistants. We are seeking the financial commitment of next year’s families to keep this valuable resource in our kindergarten program.
Ms. Nichols is a fully-certified teacher, who has undergone extensive training and professional development and who has made many valuable contributions in the classroom. Her work at Blaine ensures that our kindergarten students spend more time mastering the skills and concepts they need to learn in order to advance academically.
To build on our success with Ms. Nichols, we’d like to add a second high-quality assistant teacher to next year’s kindergarten classes. Since we anticipate four classes, each assistant teacher would divide his or her time between two classrooms. This means that for around half of the school day, your child will have two kindergarten teachers, instead of one.
With research showing that students excel when the student-to-teacher ratio decreases, we hope you agree that adding two assistant teachers is a worthy goal. We need to raise $84,000 to reach this, which translates into approximately $1,400 per family. Your financial contribution and fundraising help will be instrumental.
We hope you have time to review the other pages of this website, especially the “Campaign Information and Dates” tab. If you have questions or input, please email the Kindergarten Fund Board members at: kindergartenfund@gmail.com
